Beyonce, Halle Berry and the late Dorothy Dandridge made the 2011 list of L.A. Times Magazine’s 50 Most Beautiful Women on Film. Out of 50 women they picked only 3 of the actresses were African-American:
Beyonce at #25, Dorothy was at #12 and Halle at #5.Apparently Angela Bassett, Whoopi Goldberg, Queen Latifah, Jada Pinkett-Smith, Nia Long, Regina King, Kerry Washington, Phyllis Yvonne Stickney, Cree Summer, Naomie Harris, CCH Pounder, Sophie Okenedo, Phylicia Rashad, Kimberly Elise, Theresa Randle, Thandie Newton, Raven-Symone, Gabrielle Union, Sanaa Lathan etc were too ugly to make the cut.
I’ve tried to figure out what criteria was used to pick these actresses. If it’s body of work then as much as I love Bey and stan for her there are other actresses who have a stronger body of work that she does. Did they decide to just pick the skinniest, most light skinned women? Well Sophie Okenedo fits the bill so maybe they were only picking Americans? Well Salma Hayek isn’t one and she made the cut.
I really don’t get what criteria was used!
Mind you they did say they were biased so…
Anyway who do you think should have made the list?
